About Lake Saint Louis
Lake Saint Louis is unlike most of St. Charles County because the lake is truly the center of the community. The city was originally developed as a private recreational lake community, and today you’ll find everything from established homes in areas like Harbor Town and Bent Oak to newer subdivisions farther from the water.
The big attraction is the 625-acre Lake Saint Louis, along with the smaller Lake Sainte Louise. For residents with Community Association lake rights, summers can mean boating, waterskiing, kayaking, fishing, swimming, or just spending the evening out on the water.
Local Highlights
The lake itself is obviously the biggest highlight. The Lake Saint Louis Community Association offers beaches, marinas, boat ramps, pools, tennis, golf, parks, and community events on the water. There are even ski shows and a Fourth of July celebration on the lake.
Outside the lake, The Meadows has become one of the main shopping and dining areas. They have a really great Farmers Market on Saturdays during the summer. For food, BC's Kitchen is a great local sit-down option, while Cugino's Craft Kitchen is another good choice at The Meadows. For something more casual, Village Cafe Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner is a locally owned breakfast and lunch spot. And for a spot I have been to many, many times, is El Maguey overlooking the water. It’s a great scene.
What Buyers Should Know
This is the big thing buyers need to understand: living in Lake Saint Louis does not automatically mean you get access to the lake. The Lake Saint Louis Community Association covers only certain properties, and not every home within the city limits has Community Association membership or lake privileges.
If the lake lifestyle is important to you, I would make that one of the first things we verify when looking at a property. There’s a huge difference between simply having a Lake Saint Louis address and buying into the actual lake community.
To me, that’s what makes Lake Saint Louis special. If you want the opportunity to own a boat, spend summer evenings on the water, hit the beach, or live in a true lake community without leaving suburban St. Louis, there really isn’t another area around here quite like it.
